Very simple, a 2x4 that rests on top of two parts of the attic rafters. 2 screws in each end prevent it from slipping off either side.
Dowels and glue or gussets and glue hold all of the perpendicular 2x4s from the main 2x4, and all dowels (7/8" diameter) are glued and go all the way through.
